Meet Jen
Hi, I’m Jen and I’m really glad you’re here. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the states of California and Colorado and am lucky enough to call San Diego my home. I graduated in 2015 with my M.A. in Psychology and worked with a variety of populations while obtaining my full licensure. I have experience working in substance use from a non 12-step lens, individuals in acute crisis, and severe and chronic mental illness. I have to say though, working with eating disorders has won my heart and I am passionate about helping individuals that are struggling with their relationships with food and their body find their freedom by learning to be their authentic selves and live life in a way that feels good to them. I received and continue to receive additional and on-going training in treating these multi-faceted disorders in order to bring you an individualized approach to working with your unique story and symptoms. I also utilize my own lived experience with eating disorder and living in recovery to help guide treatment interventions.
Prior to returning to school to obtain my M.A. in 2013, I had the pleasure of living out my dream of being a marine mammal trainer. I had the amazing opportunity to work with the most incredible teachers including bottlenose dolphins, sea otters, river otters, and penguins. My experience with these incredible beings taught me patience, respect for the process of learning and changing behaviors, and being open to learning from the teacher in front of me, in this case, the animal I was working with. This shows up in sessions as me really listening to your experience and learning and growing with you, allowing processes to happen in your time, and being adaptable in supporting your process to obtaining your goals.
In my free time, I love to travel and adventure in the world. I try to plan a trip every couple of years to experience a new culture and beautiful place. I love the beach, mermaids, whales, and everything marine themed. I live with my husband, and my two dogs, Mia, and Acorn. Mia, my black lab, and Acorn, my golden retriever, both love to make cameo appearances in my sessions.
